Your Questions Answered
These are some of the more common questions we get asked at Primary Colours.
Do I need to bring a smock?
No - at Primary Colours we have our own class set of aprons in two sizes. Small for younger students and larger aprons for older students and adults.
Do I need to bring a water bottle or a snack?
No - all sessions provide students with a light snack during the class. This usually consists of sliced apples and carrots and some dry treat like pretzels or soy snacks.
Water in a sealed jug and cups are supplied on site.
What if I can't make it to a class?
If you are unable to attend a session or a workshop due to some unforeseen circumstance, simply contact us and we can arrange a make up session or organise something else that is suitable. If this will not work, as long as sufficient notice has been given (24 hours), a refund can be arranged.
If it is a casual session you can't attend, a refund can be organised as long as sufficient notice of 24 hours has been given. Or, a make up class can be arranged at another time.
Can I pay with NDIS funding?
Yes - Primary Colours is a service provider that complies with NDIS criteria.
Simply contact Primary Colours using the link above to make arrangements and we'll take care of the rest. We'll book you into the sessions you want then send an invoice upon completion of the course for settlement.
The item name generally used for classes is: Group Activities - Standard - Weekday daytime
NDIS item number: 04_102_0136_6_1
Can I stagger payments over the term?
Yes - this can be arranged.
Contact us if this is your preference and we'll book you into the course you want to secure your place. Payment can then be made weekly, fortnightly, or monthly, to Primary Colours via a bank transfer.
Do the classes work on something new every week?
Not necessarily - it depends on a few factors.
The junior classes generally work on something new every week. However, if a class has booked in for the term, we may work on longer projects over a few weeks. This is due to the fact that the numbers and students are guaranteed which allows the freedom to spend more time on work.
If there is a large number of casual bookings we are more likely to do stand alone lessons.
The older classes often work on longer projects that take more time. This is because there is a greater focus on skill development through experimentation and guided practise.
Will my child come home with a masterpiece every week?
No - well yes - it's complicated.
Primary Colours focusses on the process rather than the product. That means the end result is not the objective. It's the learning from experiments, play, and practise that are important to us. This means that sometimes kids might only produce a mess of colour, a slumping sculpture, or a chaotic collage, but that is what kids' Art should look like.
Simply copying an adult painting an adult's picture is not the way we work at Primary Colours. We feel that method of teaching inhibits risk taking, problem solving, and learning. The classes at Primary Colours are social and messy and noisy and fun and the work produced will reflect that.
Do I need to provide plates, cups, and cutlery for Art Parties?
No - we have a well stocked kitchen at Primary Colours.
In the kitchen you will find plastic, and ceramic, plates, bowls, and cups. There is also child and adult silverware as well as cutting boards, knives, coffee cups, wine glasses, large bowls, platters, and more!
The kitchen also has a small fridge and an oven.
Small tables will be supplied for you to put your snacks on and a parking space out the back is waiting there for you that leads directly to the kitchen.
Are the short courses only for adults?
No - the short courses are open to anyone.

They are generally considered adult courses as they are in the evening but younger people are welcome to join us.
